Brent Arthur’s 26 yard field goal with 18 seconds to go lifted the University of Alberta Golden Bears to their first win of the Canada West football season as they knocked off the University of Regina Rams 19-18 on Saturday afternoon.
While Regina out-gained Alberta in total yards by a count of 537-319, three costly 2nd half turnovers including a late fumble by quarterback Noah Picton sealed Regina’s fate as the Golden Bears capitalized by scoring the winning points.
The loss drops Regina’s record to 4-2 and leaves them in 2nd place in the conference behind 5-1 Calgary.
The UBC Thunderbirds will be at Mosaic Stadium Friday night in Regina’s next game. It is a 7 o’clock start.
