APAS President Norm Hall is in Ottawa to discuss various farm issues including a proposed federal carbon tax.
Hall says rising farmland prices are also under discussion.
He is in the nations capital to attend a Canadian Federation of Agriculture board meeting.
He adds there were 22 meetings with various political leaders.
The main topics were the carbon tax, grain movement, and this fall’s difficult prairie harvest.
As well, the environment and electronic infrastructure were on the list.
On the topic of grain transportation, CP Rail has started publishing a weekly supply chain scorecard.
Hall says CP did not meet its hopper car supply requirements in one reporting week in October, and the reason given was cold and snow.
He will wait and see what the issues are in November and December.
According to the Ag Transport Coalition weekly reports on rail grain movement, CP Rail has consistently performed much worse than CN in providing hopper cars for the week they were ordered.
Hall says CP has been consistently worse than CN, and it is discouraging.
He says it needs to be watched.
