This morning on my way to work, about a block from our house, I saw something I had never seen driving in to work before. It was sitting on the side of the road as if was just waiting for me to drive by before crossing the road. When it first caught my eye it looked a little larger than a cat, but too small to be a dog. As I pulled up closer I realized it was neither. It was a fox!
The last time I saw a fox was about four years ago when I had to head out to Moosomin for a broadcast at Borderland Co-op. As a matter of fact I saw three of them that day, all on the shoulder of the road dead after getting hit by vehicles. This one this morning was very much alive. I know that foxes aren’t rare within city limits, but this one seemed to be pushing the boundaries a bit.
As I drove on I checked my rear view mirror and noticed the little guy sprinting across the road the minute I drove past him.
If the other foxes I saw on my way to Moosomin that day had the street smarts this guy had, they’d probably still be alive today.
