“I like our chances!”.
That is what Regina Pats owner Anthony Marquart is saying about the possibiilty of the team hosting the 2018 Memorial Cup.
On Monday, the Canadian Hockey League announced Regina, Oshawa and Hamilton are the finalists with the host being selected in February.
Marquart adds the fact the Pats are also celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2018 and the relationship they have with the Canadian military are things that he feels will swing the bid process in their favour.
One potential roadblock appears to be out of the equation and that is a new working agreement with the Regina Exhibition Association on a new lease at the Brandt Center.
Marquart told reporters Tuesday morning they are optimistic on a new deal being reached before the end of the month and that the two sides are not far apart.
Marquart would not say if the bid process will be derailed if a new lease isn’t achieved.
