A 10-year-old horse has been euthanized at Agribition.
At a news conference Friday morning, spokesperson Chris Lane says the incident happened during the bareback event on Thursday night.
Organizers are not completely sure what happened, but it appears the horse landed wrong and suffered some type of neck or spinal injury.
Lane says medical staff made the humane decision to euthanize the horse.
Lane says all medical protocol was followed. The rider was not injured.
Lane says an accident like this at Agribition is rare. Apparently, it’s the first time in over 20-years a horse has been euthanized at the event.
The Alberta rodeo stock company which owned the horse says it is the first time ever one of their horses had to be euthanized during a rodeo event.
