The Regina Pats swung a late night trade Wednesday acquiring 17 year old defenceman Jonathan Smart from the Kelowna Rockets.
In exchange for Smart, the Pats give up 19 year old defenceman James Hilsendager and 17 year old forward Erik Gardiner who currently plays for the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos.
Smart was Kelowna’s first round pick in the 2014 bantam draft and has played 63 games in his WHL career. In that time, he has scored three goals and added 21 assists.
He was recently ranked as a “C” skater by NHL Central Scouting for this year’s draft meaning he is a projected 4th-6th round pick.
Smart is expected to make his Regina debut Saturday when the Pats entertain the Prince Albert Raiders in their first game on home ice since November 13.
