There was a solemn ceremony in the Saskatchewan legislature Wednesday.
MLA’s were mourning the passing of 63 year old Roger Parent, who had been MLA for the riding of Saskatoon Meewasin since 2011.
It was disclosed Tuesday, Parent was suffering from cancer and he died Tuesday night.
Speaking with emotion, Premier Brad Wall says Parent worked hard to serve his constituents.
He says Parent would advocate for individual issues or broad matters for all.
Flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature are at half mast.
Opposition leader Trent Wotherspoon also paid tribute to Parent.
He says Parent has a long-lasting legacy of supporting indigenous business development.
MLA’s rose for a moment of silence.
Wednesday was to be the last question period of the fall session, but due to Parent’s death, it has been cancelled.
