Ice is beginning to form on Regina’s water surfaces, but it’s not enough to hold your weight according to the Regina Fire & Protective Services.
In fact, people are advised to stay off ice surfaces including Wascana Lake and creek, storm channels and detention ponds in residential areas.
Throughout the winter months, people are also asked to not walk, ski or skate on any body of water.
Parents and guardians are asked to take a few moments to remind children of this important safety rule.
It is also suggested dogs are kept leashed when close to bodies of water. If your pet breaks through the ice, do not attempt to rescue it as you will be putting yourself in serious danger.
If you see people, particularly children, close to thin ice, call Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500.
In an emergency involving people or pets, call 9-1-1.
