The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation is stressing the importance of carbon monoxide alarms, after one saved a Saskatoon family last week.
Foundation Executive Director John Gignac says every day we carry 3 to 4 parts per million (ppm) just by stepping outside, while smokers carry 10 to 12 ppm every day.
He notes while carbon monoxide is odorless and colourless, it can exist within your home.
Gignac says symptoms of what carbon monoxide does to you are very similar to that of the flu.
Gignac lost his niece and her family to carbon monoxide back in 2008. He has been working with the foundation on carbon monoxide education ever since.
