A bombshell from Premier Brad Wall on the first question period of the spring session of the Legislature.
Wall told those in the assembly SaskTel is not for sale, and won’t be sold even if an offer comes forward to purchase the Crown-owned phone company.
Wall told MLA’s Saskatchewan people are not interested in a referendum and they are opposed to a sale of the crown.
The future of the crown-owned phone company has been in question since Bell announced it was going to buy Manitoba Telephone Services leaving SaskTel in a position of being the only public-owned, regional carrier telecommunications company in the country.
Many felt with the province dealing with a one billion dollar deficit that a sell-off of SaskTel would help dig the province out of the financial hole it is in.
