What on earth does one blog about on a cold, Saskatchewan morning. I spent the weekend inside recovering from lack of sleep from a road trip on Thursday and working early Friday. Man, I must be getting old .. didn’t feel that way til about 8:30 Friday. I can still stay out and function with the best of them!
Boring you with a review of the Thursday Eric Church concert, in Saskatoon – nah! You know everything WAS GREAT! And besides, you have read the reviews, seen the photos and heard us talking about it! Yes there were some glitches but each one was more on a personal level with the tickets for the ‘pit’ area.
The meet & greet went seamlessly! And its neat when you’ve done it a few times with the same artist, some of the staff become very familiar! Whether the artist remembers you is a total crap shoot. Its an understatement to say how much I enjoy this guy! He’s pretty cool and would be someone that you could probably have some interesting conversations with across the hood of a truck. Just hangin’!
Okay, so the concert was fun, great to be soooo close and of course the meet & greet.
Now, how about that trip home!
When we rolled into Saskatoon, I knew I would need gas to get home! But as we got into the 4 0’clock traffic and looked for a place to have supper .. (Smiley’s) it became clear that getting fuel wasn’t going to happen until after the show.
The concert was finished by 11:35. The “hanging around” inside Credit Union Centre lasted til about 11:50. By that time, the routes out of the parking lot were running smooth! Traffic was still blasting into Saskatoon from the Yellowhead Highway! Boom before you know it you are around 8th and on your way out of town! EXCEPT – a wee stop for something to eat – a drive thru.
McDonalds – lined up with no movement. Once in the line up hard to get out right! Not really..so wiggled out of there and moved over to the Tim Horton’s. The girl working the drive thru was great! So here are 3 or 4 all night burger/coffee joints in this two block area, but NO GAS STATIONS OPEN! WHAT THE …..!
I was mentioning this to Brandon, he said; “Well, I could told you that! Same thing happened to me when I came back from my vacation!”
Gas stations that are not open in an area where it would make perfect sense that they are! Who does this!
How about those ones south on Highway 11 at Grasswoods … they must be open – major thoroughfare to Regina! NOPE – closed at 11 or 11:30! Again, what the ….
So, at – 24, having fuel is a good thing, I am not chancing the gauge to get us to Davidson. That requires turning around and taking a shot at 8th Street again to see if something Westward is open at 1am. And it was .. yeah! PetroCanada.. Thank you!
Now we are back on the road – full moon drive on a cold Saskatchewan night – at least tomorrow, ah today is Friday!
Eventually home – dropped my sister off at her place by about 4am. Doubled back to McDonalds on Albert and Dewdney – the system was upgrading and they weren’t open! A 24 hour drive-thru not open! Jamie wanted a cheese burger and it sounded pretty good to me as well.
I drove out East to the Park and Victoria McDonald’s – same kind of response! I did however get something Egg McMuffins and coffee!!
Note to self – McDonald’s does system upgrades at 4am! Don’t go there at this time.
I was into work at 4:30 .. shocking! Kind of a fun way to start your day, with no sleep!
Friends, here’s the deal … pack snacks for the trip home including water, fuel up before you go to the show. Remember, if you get out late, the gas stations that are open are far and few between! And make sure you don’t have to work the next morning! It makes for a long day.
But worth every bit of it!
