The NDP is raising concern about budget cuts to community based organizations across Saskatchewan.
Opposition critic Nicole Sarauer says a ten percent cut to funding for organizations like the Canadian Mental Health Association, autism treatment, and Hope’s home for children in Regina is a mistake.
She says these cuts are very serious and people’s lives are being affected.
She wants the cuts to be delayed until a comprehensive plan is developed.
Health minister Jim Reiter says the budget was difficult but health comprises 40 percent of the total.
He says there is no way to put the financial affairs in order without an impact on the health ministry.
He says it is important for the government to focus on core services for health.
He wants to ensure core services for health care are maintained and protected.
He says no final decisions have been made as to what Community based organizations will see a reduction, or how much any reduction will be to a particular group.
