A long-awaited election has been called for the Metis Nation-Saskatchewan.
Chief Electoral Officer Loretta Metzger has called for the election to be held May 27 with nominations being accepted for president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and 12 representatives on the provincial Metis council. Those nominations will be accepted until April 27 at 2 PM
Prospective candidates are allowed to run for only one position.
In 2014, federal funding for the MN-S was taken away after the group did not hold required province-wide legislative assemblies. The reason for that was the group’s elected leaders were in a state of dissension.
It is thought once the election takes place that federal funding will resume.
