About a week ago my wife asked if I had heard any “beeps” coming from the basement. I hadn’t heard anything at that point. She asked me a few more times and I was beginning to wonder if this beautiful lady was starting to lose her marbles. Then one afternoon last week it happened to me. I called my wife at work. “You’re not losing it! I just heard it as well.”
We knew it was coming from the laundry room, we just didn’t know what it the world it was. It’s not like I was going to stand in the room for an hour waiting to hear that darn beeping so I could pinpoint exactly where it was coming from. I had an inkling that it might be our cable box, but the cable was working fine, so I didn’t think that was it.
Pretty soon the beeping went from happening once an hour to twice an hour and then every 15-20 minutes.
Yesterday my wife was doing laundry when she heard the beeping sound again. She was right there to catch the culprit. Gotcha! Finally, the mystery was solved. The sound was actually coming from our cable box! There is a pouch on the side of the cable box with a piece of paper in it. My wife pulled that piece of paper out and read it. Apparently, when the battery is low, the box will beep every 15 minutes to let you know it’s time to change it. Great detective work honey.
This, however, is not your run of the mill battery. We need a “7.2 amp hour valve regulated lead acid battery.” Ever heard of one? Me neither.
So, it’s off to SaskTel after work this morning to grab a new battery.
At least we won’t have to worry about that incessant beeping anymore!
