Ontario-based Canopy Growth is investing 15-million dollars to expand the production of medical marijuana in Saskatchewan.
The group is taking over a Yorkton facility soon and spokesman Andrew MacCorquodale says that facility will jump from 20 to 90 thousand square feet of indoor production of medical marijuana:
“We can generally get 5 or 6 turns of rotations per year out of each of our production rooms,” said MacCorquodale. “Our expectation is that the grow-cycle will be anywhere between two to three months – from start to finish.”
MacCorquodale expects 40 to 50 jobs will be created if the new production facililty gets a licence.
Marijuana is expected to be legalized in Canada next summer.
