The largest model railroad show on the prairies gets underway Saturday.
The first-ever Railfest will be held at the Tartan Curling Club and it includes 20,000 square feet of operating model train layouts from across the prairies.
Bill Stahl, a member of the Echo Valley Model Railroad Guild, said Railfest is a reincarnation of a previous popular rail show in the Queen City.
He added that the old model railroad show in Regina came to an end due to issues around finding the appropriate venue.
This time, he said the Tartan is the perfect place to showcase the impressive layouts, exhibits — some of which are coming from out-of-province from places like Calgary and Winnipeg.
New and old displays will be set up, including a Lego railroad that Stahl calls a must-see.
For families attending, Stahl said there’s even a special admission rate. A portion of all admissions will also be donated to Hope’s Home.
The show runs at Regina’s Tartan Curling Club from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
