The RM of Edenwold — northeast of Regina — is ready to celebrate Canada 150.
In honour of the anniversary, the RM is teaming up with neighbouring towns to sponsor a number of events — including a threshing bee, a White City Family Fun Day, the Pilot Butte Rodeo, and fireworks.
Kim McIvor the administrator for the RM says these festivities mean a lot to people in the area.
“These are all very important events to our community,” said McIvor. “We’re more than happy to support that for our Canada 150 celebrations.”
Things kick off Monday with elementary school students in the area.
As part of their “Canada 150 Legacy Tree Project,” the kids will receive a seedling to plant and nurture in honour of the 150th anniversary.
The goal is for the kids to plant and nurture their tree, having it as a reminder of our country’s 150th anniversary.
McIvor says the trees are symbolic.
“We truly believe the trees are symbolic of strength and hope,” said McIvor. “We felt the symbolism of the trees is also a symbolism of Canada as this country has grown.”
