So some new albums have dropped in the last couple of weeks. I know this due to having bought several when I don’t buy any usually. The thing is though they are two very different experiences. Linkin Park and Zac Brown Band, two very different bands who have tried a very similar thing. Change their sound. It’s kind of a wild swing to figure out if it worked or not. Linkin Park a very heavy rock band released an album that is all pop, all of it, it’s kind of a culture shock moment as a fan. You had to kind of see it coming from their previous work to be honest. The Zac Brown Band did the opposite not a slow burn just full on jumped in with the previous album Jekyll and Hyde.
Now Zac’s reaction to people not liking that album was to go immedietly back to their original sound with the new Welcome Home, kind of a fitting title, and that actually makes me somewhat sad. While I wasn’t a fan of the electric dance music and some of the rock songs could be toned down a touch I felt the southern rock sound they were aiming for previously was great.
Ultimately what I’m getting at is that oddly it’s fine for one band to alter their sound and for others not so much.
