The 2017 Western Major Baseball League season starts Thursday night with the Regina Red Sox taking on the Yorkton Cardinals in Yorkton to kick off the season.
Red Sox manager Mitch McDonald believes his squad is ready to get the season rolling after a short training camp, and that the organization did a good job of recruiting players for the upcoming campaign.
“I think we’re happy with who we have and who we brought in,” McDonald said. “We tried to cover as many bases as possible so we can prepare for any scenario you may want to encounter in a ball game.”
McDonald feels his team comes in with perhaps an advantage over some other teams because there are several returnees from last year on this year’s squad.
With some players still on their way to Regina having yet to complete their US collegiate season, McDonald feels they have about 90 percent of their roster ready to go with those who aren’t here expected in the next couple of days.
The Red Sox home opener is Sunday at Currie Field versus Yorkton at 2 PM.
