The third and final test event at Mosaic Stadium goes Saturday night as the Riders play their first-ever game in their new home.
As was the case at other events in the facility, a traffic plan is in place.
Fans are being encouraged to take the bus as it will leave from two locations downtown (Victoria and Scarth and Hamilton across from Casino Regina), and four shopping malls (Victoria Square, Northgate, Southland, Normanview) two hours prior to kickoff with the first buses leaving after the 3rd quarter.
Fans should also know Elphinstone between Dewdney and Saskatchewan Drive will be closed starting at 3:30, as will other streets in the area, and will stay that way until a while after the game with the only vehicles allowed in being Regina transit and local residents only.
Sergeant Ian Barr with the Regina Police Service says patience will be the order of the day for those going to the game.
“I would ask for patience, because we have to learn how to best implement it,” Barr said. “We have tweaked it as we go along and some things are different from the concert that was held there a couple of weeks ago. At the end of the day, we want to get everyone in and out safely and efficiently.”
Extra officers will be assigned to the game to help ensure safety and that vehicle and pedestrian traffic moves smoothly.
Here is the traffic plan as provided by Regina Police:
Beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th, there will be no vehicle traffic allowed on the 1500, 1600, and 1700 blocks of Elphinstone Street. Access will be limited to Regina Transit buses and local residents only (you may be asked to show that you are a local resident, e.g. home address on identification or correspondence). Fans and motorists will find road closures on:
• 1500 block of Elphinstone Street at Dewdney Avenue;
• Princess Street and 9th Avenue;
• Argyle Street and 9th Avenue;
• MacTavish Street and 9th Avenue;
• Elphinstone Street and 9th Avenue;
• Elphinstone Street and 10th Avenue;
• Elphinstone Street and North Railway Street;
