The month of May saw the highest number of recorded impaired driving tickets across Saskatchewan in 2017, and SGI says it’s just another reminder as to the importance of their ongoing campaigns.
324 impaired driving related offenses occured in May, including 280 criminal code charges, and 44 roadside suspensions.
Manager of Media Relations, Tyler McMurchy, says quite simply it’s unacceptable the numbers are so high.
“The leading cause of fatality on Saskatchewan roads is 100-percent preventable,” McMurchy said. “With new, tough, impaired driving legislation introduced earlier this year, it’s 100-percent not worth the risk.”
May also saw a massive uptick in speeding tickets, with over 6,000 handed out in just 31 days.
