Plans are being finalized for the first ever “Soccer Day in Saskatchewan”.
On July 22, FC Valencia will play the New York Cosmos at Mosaic Stadium in a “friendly” in what will be the first international soccer game played in our province.
Bob Maltman is the head coach of the University of Regina ladies soccer team and he says having a game like this in Regina is tremendous for a sport which is growing and growing in popularity in Saskatchewan.
“This game will be huge,” Maltman says. ” To have one of the top teams in the world in one of the top leagues in the world come here to play a game in our city and our stadium is absolutely unbelievable. What it should do for an already growing sport in our province is tremendous.”
Before that game, the U of R will play the U of S in an exhibition game in a contest Maltman feels will be a career highlight for all involved.
