Yesterday morning I left work a little earlier than usual for a couple of events that I had to do outside the station.
First stop was Casino Regina to MC the annual Player’s Club Pancake Breakfast. When I got there people were lined up from the rail car all the way back to the parking lot. It was outdoors, so the beautiful morning was a welcome sight. The duo of Conrad Bigknife and Chris Jensen provided the entertainment. It was a great event. Conrad actually won our Big Country Talent Show back in 1997!
There was an old timer in the crowd who called himself “Cowboy.” He was 71 years old and was about to embark on a hitch hiking journey out to Nova Scotia. He was quite the character and quite the storyteller, so who knows about the hitch hiking tale. He kept telling me he wanted to get up to sing a song, which I wasn’t really sure would fly with the boys on stage, but they were more than happy to bring him up to sing one song. He wanted to sing a song he’d written, but ended up singing “I Don’t Need Your Rocking Chair” by George Jones. The boys followed on their guitars as best they could. When it was all said and done, the people loved it. Good job “Cowboy.” Good luck making your way out east riding on a thumb and a prayer.
After the Casino I made my way out to Longman Crescent to broadcast from United Rentals. It was an Open House/Customer Appreciation Day. When I arrived, I noticed the engineer had set up my broadcast equipment outside. After spending the weekend in Craven standing around in the sun, I figured I needed another one of those days like I needed a hole in the head. Oh well, let’s enjoy this weather while we’ve got it, right? So, outside it was!
Those four hours flew by quickly. Thanks to Perry, Clint, and Rod! We had a lot of fun and served up lots and lots of burgers and hot dogs!
After I was finished at United Rentals I got into my vehicle and cranked up the air conditioning. Then I just sat there for a couple of minutes enjoying the cool breeze.
Air condition never felt so good!
