Two very interesting things popped up in the past week which inspired me to write this blog. First, at Country Thunder Saskatchewan in Craven I bumped into the 2017 Saskachewanderer, Andrew Hiltz, who, in my opinion, has the best job. He gets to travel the province seeking out new places, promoting favourite spots and taking in all kinds of festivals and fairs. So far he’s visited 91 places in Saskatchewan!
The second item that inspired this blog was a recent report from Coleman Canada which indicates only 3 out of 10 Canadians are spending less than five minutes a day outside. That’s all. 95 per cent stated spending times outdoors reduced stress over all, however 84 per cent admitted their family and work schedules just did not allow for more outdoor time.
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that while work is important, so is spending quality time with family outside in this beautiful province of ours. I have fond memories of Kenosee Lake in Moose Mountain Provincial Park. As a kid, our family had a cabin there which was just a short walk from the water slides, the ice cream store, mini golf and the beach. The ice cream store was usually the most popular choice for me.
We are lucky to have so many beautiful spots in our province from top to bottom and side to side. When you like to get outside to get away from it all, where is your favourite Saskatchewan summer destination?
