Regina’s mayor says it is a sure sign as to how people are noticing the new 278 million dollar Mosaic Stadium.
Fougere makes the comments after Regina was put on a list to be a potential host for a game or games at the 2026 World Cup of Soccer if a joint bid by Canada, the U-S and Mexico is successful.
The mayor says being a part of the world’s biggest sporting event would be amazing for Regina in so many ways ranging from tourism to notoriety.
There are questions being asked about whether Regina is big enough to hold such an event. but Fougere says the questions are ones they have heard time and time again when it comes to possible events coming here with history showing the city can host big events.
Regina has until September 5 to let the Canadian Soccer Association know if they are interested in being a part of the process. Fougere says they are and he is interested at how far a possible bid can go to get one or more games for an event which is considered as one of the world’s biggest.
