Due to extreme wildfire hazards, the Ministry of Environment has issued a ban on all open fires for provincial Crown land south of the Churchill River system.
The ban includes the following provincial parks and their surrounding recreation sites:
Good Spirit Lake
Great Blue Heron
Lac La Ronge
Last Mountain House
St. Victor Petroglyphs
Touchwood Hills Post
Wood Mountain Post
The provincial parks that are NOT included in the fire ban are Athabasca Sand Dunes and Clearwater River.
For the duration of the ban, no open fires are permitted. Fireworks are also prohibited. For cooking and heating purposes, the following items are permitted:
Self-contained heating devices
Propane fire pits
Charcoal briquettes used in park-provided barbecues and fire pits
The fire ban is effective immediately and will stay in place until conditions improve and the Ministry of Environment rescinds the order.
The fire ban does not affect the day-to-day operations of the parks. The parks will be open, accepting visitors and are looking forward to a great long weekend.
