As university students head back for fall semester this week, navigating the U of R campus will get a little easier.
The installment of street signs around the university will not only make navigating much more simple, it will also continue to expand the schools culture.
Street signs will be named after plants that have been traditionally important to indigenous peoples in Saskatchewan.
Doctor Vianne Timmons, the U of R’s President and Vice Chancellor says signs will be in a variety of languages .
“Some are named in French, ENglish and four different Indigenous languages,” Dr. Timmons said. “And it’s really to talk about the multi-culture, inclusive nature of our campus. And how important it is to honour our Indigenous roots in our country – and in particular in this place. On Treaty 4 land.”
Doctor Timmons says all of the signs will be installed before the end of the fall semester.
