A third political party in Saskatchewan needs a new leader.
On Saturday in Saskatoon, provincial Liberal leader Darrin Lamoureux announced at the party’s convention that he is stepping down.
In a release, Lamoureux says “While I remain supportive and positive about the long-term prospects of the Liberal brand in Saskatchewan, I feel that now is the appropriate time to step down to allow the renewal process that is under way to continue. This will also allow time for our members and new leader to prepare for the next general election.”
The decision means the Liberals now join the Saskatchewan Party and NDP as political parties in Saskatchewan needing a new leader.
The party says a leadership convention will be held in 2018 and an interim leader will be selected soon.
