Defending champion Val Sweeting has an opportunity to make it back-to-back Tour Challenge titles.
Sweeting advanced to the final of the season-opening Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event with a 6-5 win over Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones in Saturday’s semifinals at the Co-Operators Centre.
The Edmonton native, who enters the final with a 6-0 record, will play Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg, who also earned a 6-5 victory by defeating Scotland’s Eve Muirhead.
That game will go at 2:30 with the Tier 2 final happening. It sees Chelsea Carey playing Kerri Einarson.
In the men’s final Sunday morning, defending Canadian and World champion Brad Gushue will play Norway’s Steffen Walsted with the Tier 2 final seeing Jason Gunnlaugson against William Lyburn. Those games go at 10:30. To advance to the final, Gushue beat Brad Jacobs in what could be a Brier or Canadian Olympic Trials finals preview by a score of 5-2 with Walsted beating Sweden’s Niklas Edin 6-5.
