The Government of Canada is making an investment of more than 2 million dollars to the Scientific research department at the University of Regina.
Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Ralph Goodale was in Regina on Friday to make the announcement on behalf of Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan.
He says it is important to invest in science at the federal level.
“Discovery and innovation not only helps to strengthen and grow the middle class, it opens up possibilities for improving the quality of life of everyone in our society,” Goodale says. “Better and more effective health care, smarter, more connected cities and communities, cleaner and more sustainable energy, and a more diverse and more prosperous economy.”
Goodale adds the Government will continue to invest in Science at the Federal level.
“This work is a fantastic example of how NSERC furthers the development of applied Sciences while creating job-ready trainees. As a Government we are honored to support the work of researchers, and we’ve consistently demonstrated that support through two successive budgets where Science has figured prominently in each one of them.”
The investment is part of a 515 million dollar investment to NSERC Discovery Grants, which provides support to researchers and students in their scientific studies.
