With evacuated residents from the wildfires in northeast Saskatchewan still displaced, school had been postponed ,but there is now some schooling on site in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
Pelican Narrows schools are under federal jurisdiction so the Prince Albert Grand Council is working with the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation to organize that, but Thomas Sierzycki, with the Ministry of Education, said they have reached out as well.
“It is our understanding that PAGC is assisting PBCN with students who remain displaced , and that PBCN are leading activities for students both in Prince Albert and Saskatoon,” Sierzycki said on a media conference call on Monday.
Steve Roberts, Executive Director of Wildfire Management said the weather and shifting winds made for a dynamic weekend, but he feels they were successfully able to manage it, with no closer infringement on the communities of Pelican Narrows, Birch Portage, Jan Lake and Sandy Bay.
The largest of the three fires in the Pelican Narrows region is around 107,000 hectares, which is about six times the area of Regina.
