There are 34 active wildfires in the province and the area of main concern continues to be the Wilkins, Preston and Granite fires in the northeast near Pelican Narrows.
That community along with Birch Portage, Jan Lake and Sandy Bay are under a volunteer evacuation, and new to the list is the recreational community of Tyrell Lake.
Executive Director of Wildfire Management, Steve Roberts, says the largest of the fires, the Granite fire grew on its east side, moving closer to Tyrell Lake.
“Fire activity on that east side closed Highway 106 for a period of time,” Roberts said in a media teleconference Tuesday. “It resulted in a recommended evacuation of Tyrell Lake. There’s a SaskTel communication tower there.”
There are 4 permanent residents in Tyrell Lake and the rest are seasonal.
