RCMP say it’s to early to tell what, if any charges will be laid after a six-year-old boy was mauled to death by two large dogs on Wednesday.
Milestone RCMP and EMS were called to a home in the community of Riceton, southeast of Regina around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday evening.
When they arrived they found the boy fatally injured, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP Sargent Rob Embree, said at this time the incident is only being investigated as a dog attack, and nothing more.
“It was reported as a dog attack, so that’s how it’s being investigated. We have to follow through in the investigation, I just don’t want to jump the gun and say that this charge is happening or that charge, it’s just to speculative and we have to let the initial investigation go forward,” Embree told reports on Thursday.
RCMP, the Chief Coronor and the Regina Humane Society are all involved in the investigation.
Police say they will not officially release the boys name, but a GoFundMe page has been set up for his family to help with funeral costs.
Both dogs, Alaskan Malamutes have been put down.
Riceton is 50 kilometers southeast of Regina.
