The Children’s Discovery Museum in Saskatoon is 3 million dollars closer to construction.
The Canadian government has announced a 3 million dollar donation through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund that will go towards renovating the Mendel Art Gallery to be the future home of the museum.
Past President of the Children’s Discovery Museum Dave Hunchak says the donation puts them over the halfway point in their capital campaign.
“This brings us to 60% of our capital campaign goal of $15 million. We’re well on our way, the design and construction team is well into the design, and we’re happy we now have the building vacant so we can start, it’s great.”
Hunchak says there has been a lot of interest in the project, based on the tender for exhibits.
“We prequalified who we were going to, but we’re very happy with the bids that have come in, and we’re excited to be selecting in the next month or so.”
The museum is scheduled to open its doors in early 2019.
