It could have been a sad end to a fundraiser for the Asquith Sports Centre, but having a Gordie Howe signed jersey stolen from the rink turned out to have some silver lining.
Asquith rink Board Member, Brandi McTavish said when people found out, support came in from all across Canada and into the United States with donations of memorabilia.
It includes signed hockey jerseys from Gordie Howe, Sidney Crosby, Bernie Parent and Johnny Bower to name a few.
There are also other collectables like hockey cards and pennants, so now the fundraiser is larger than it would have been originally.
The online auction is currently open for pre-bidding and goes live Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m.
You can click on the link with this story to find the auction and the items are #500 to 529a.
McTavish said there are no specific goals for the money raised at this point.
The first thing is just to keep the doors open, and then possibly some improvements along the way.
She quotes another board member about this experience with the stolen jersey that sometimes it takes the worst in people to bring out the best in people.
