The Five Hills Health Region is continuing to see more cases of whooping cough in and around Moose Jaw.
Whooping cough called pertussis by medical professionals , gets its nickname because of the whooping sound people usually make when infected.
Dr. Mark Vooght, Medical Health Officer for the Five Hills Health Region says parents who feel pressure from anti-vaccination families need to realize the importance of vaccinations and the potential consequences of not keeping up with vaccinations.
“Those people who have never had their kids immunized , seriously think about that,” Vooght said. “They are also endangering other people in their family, other people in the community. Sooner or later, someone is going to become extremely ill with this.”
Dr. Vooght points to the death of an infant from whooping cough back in 2010 as the example of the worst that can happen with not immunizing children.
