Despite the cold and windy conditions, the Saskatchewan Flag Football regional playdowns took place at Mosaic stadium Sunday.
The North of Dewdney Riders were this years winners, meaning they will represent the province in Ottawa during Grey Cup week at the NFL/CFL Flag Football Canadian play downs.
Head Coach Tyler Lloyd says his players played very well considering it was a last minute team.
“The kids were unbelievable, we kind of threw this team together at the last minute and the kids were awesome. They played very well all day long, it was really well done.”
Members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, such as Jeff Knox Jr. Naaman Roosevelt and Willie Jefferson were in attendance mentoring all of the players.
Roosevelt says watching the kids play flag football reminded him of when he was young.
“As a kid, you could play in any weather, you could play in any environment and just come out here and just have your parents out here, have your family out here, and have your peers out here and just having fun with them, it’s exciting.”
A total of five teams from Regina were at the tournament.
