Infill housing defvelopment could soon be on the way to the city of Regina.
A consultant`s report has made suggestions to city council on the topic of infill developments, which are new houses built in existing neighbourhoods.
Shauna Bzdel, is the Director of Planning for the City of Regina, and says there are only guidelines in place for now.
“We have no ability to enforce a guideline, and what we plan to do is review these guidelines, understand the impact administratively, and to the community and to the industry, and then implement them into regulations. The regulations being the zoning bylaw.”
Regina, being one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, may look to infill development to help with population growth.
Bzdel says the city is planning what to do next.
“Right now, city administration is going to be taking this document, and using it as an input into future policies,” Bzdel says. “Neighbourhood plans is one, it’s going to help us guide neighbourhood plans as well as the regulation.”
Infill development is the addition of new houses in existing neighbourhoods.
