The new adult emergency room that will be part of the Children’s Hospital will include private spaces for mental health emergency care, but until that opens in late 2019, the Saskatoon Health Region is establishing a temporary mental health assessment unit.
That’s thanks to a $1-million donation from the Dube family through the Royal University Hospital Foundation.
Renovations will begin this month and are expected to take 3 or 4 months.
The Assessment Unit will allow care for up to seven patients at a time and also means freeing up space in the existing Emergency Department and the Irene and Leslie Dube Centre for Mental Health.
The work will include improvements to the two existing secure mental health rooms at RUH.
