The University of Regina’s Man Up Against Violence organization is holding awareness events throughout this week.
Students were able to enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Ridell Centre, all the while were able to learn what Man Up Against Violence is all about.
Thomas Gallet, student assistant and associate director for Man Up Against Violence, says the organization hopes to bring awareness of the sexual harassment issue on campus.
“The U of R has a very bad track record for sexual harassment, things like that, that go on on campus,” Gallet says. “Man Up Against Violence is here to create the answer for that, so we’re here this week, this is our big week where we promote all of our events going on and try and raise awareness.”
Gallet says it is very important to bring awareness to students of these issues.
“I think it’s really important to make it more than a statistic,” Gallet says. “I know with the ‘Me too’ campaign in particular, I was really shocked by it. I was shocked not because of the amount of people, but just by seeing people I knew coming out and saying something because I knew the statistics, I knew the numbers, and I think a lot of people do.”
Tuesday there will be an education expo with campus security on how to report sexual harassment.
