The Saskatchewan Taxi Cab Association is not happy with the province’s Throne Speech that focused on bringing transportation services such as Uber and Lyft to the province.
Spokesperson Shondra Boire says allowing transportation network companies like Uber to operate under a different set of rules than taxis “devalues long standing and necessary local bylaws established to ensure public service and safety.”
The STCA cited their proposed Flex-Service taxi hybrid solution as their alternative to ride-sharing services. The concept would see more part-time cabs on the road during peak times.
The Taxi Cab Association says they welcome Uber and other ride sharing services to the province, if they operate under the same rules as taxi drivers.
