Legions across Saskatoon are holding an appreciation tea Sunday afternoon to thank the veterans for what they have done for Canada.
Diane Robson, who chairs the Saskatoon Poppy Campaign, says this year holds a number of major milestones, from the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge to Canada’s 150th birthday.
But Robson also says it marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Tuberculosis Veterans Section of the Royal Canadian Legion.
“I think people are not aware of the effect that being in the war has had on these soldiers that came back and they were ill, and didn’t know they had tuberculosis”
Army Cadets who attended this year’s ceremonies from Vimy Ridge will be sharing their trip with the veterans at the appreciation tea.
