Yesterday during my lunch break friends and I got into a discussion about leftover food. It was a discussion that would shake everybody to the core, I know, but sarcasm aside, do you actually keep and eat leftovers?
I love leftovers for a couple of reasons. First, it means one less meal I have to make the next day. I just have to open the fridge, grab the container, and eat it up. As a man who’s very lazy when it comes to cooking, it’s a great feeling to open the fridge door and see dinner already prepared! Second, sometimes leftovers taste better the next day. Chilli and hamburger helper both come to mind as foods that taste WONDERFUL the next day! Perhaps it’s due to them marinating in their own spices that helps bring out the flavour the next day…or my taste buds are just weird!
Now, I’ve talked to some who refuse to eat leftover food because they just simply don’t like it. It has to be hot and fresh all the time for them. I would agree with that if I were dining at a restaurant! Nobody wants to go to a restaurant to enjoy a meal from the day before.
It’s also important to note how long leftovers are in the fridge for. In my house leftovers never stick around long. One more day and they’re all gone. However, some tend to keep leftovers in the fridge for several days which, depending on how long, can be a little risky. If you open the fridge door and your leftovers want out, it’s probably time to throw them out!
Where do you stand on leftovers? Do you like them or toss them?
