To mark Louis Riel Memorial Day, the four main Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses will raise the Metis flag on Thursday.
With thousands of Indigenous students attending Sask Polytech around the province, Jason Seright, Director of Indigenous Strategy said the day becomes that much more significant.
“Well for us it’s very important because we’ve got 4,200 Indigenous students in Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and it’s been part of our Indigenous students success strategy to make all of our students feel welcome,” Seright said.
Seright added honoring Metis students and acknowledging Lois Riel Day is very important when it comes to continuing to create a welcoming environment.
“So honoring our Metis students and acknowledging Louis Riel Day is part of creating a welcoming environment for our students,” he said.
Seright said the flags will all be raised simultaneously at 9:00 a.n. Thursday, at the Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Prince Albert campuses.
