The provincial government is providing funding to help out the police services in their two biggest cities.
The province is providing the Saskatoon Police Service with $4.8 million towards 43 new officers and Regina with $4.7 million for 40 new positions.
Chief Evan Bray says the funding is extremely important to the departments’ operations.
“We as a police service, along with the provincial government, on an annual basis assess what crime trends are happening,” says Bray.
“Child exploitation, for example, is something that’s very, very important. So is safety on the highway. So is the enforcement of marijuana.”
Bray says the funding will be primarily used to fill existing positions within the RPS.
