Last weekend we told our granddaughters to go through their Toys “R” Us catalogue and circle everything they wanted for Christmas. My wife and I stopped by their house the other night after supper to grab the catalogue so we could get started on our Christmas shopping. When I looked inside the catalogue, there weren’t many items that weren’t circled! Now it’s time for some online shopping.
My wife and I have gradually increased our online Christmas shopping over the years to the point where nearly all the gifts the girls get have been delivered directly to our door. It makes life so much easier! The only items we get that we actually have to go to the store for are clothing items. I say “we,” but actually that’s up to my wife. When it comes to clothes shopping, whether it’s for her or the girls, I’m never invited along. It has something to do with my patience, or lack thereof. That’s 100% fine with me! Shop on grandma!
I remember as a kid, my sister and I would be so excited when the Christmas catalogue came along. We’d actually get two. One from Sears and one from Eaton’s. The first section I’d go to was the one that had all of the sporting equipment. After that it was straight to the toy section. We’d circle what we wanted, hand the catalogue over to mom, and then count down the days until Christmas. It was a magical time indeed!
Of course, mom had to actually
go out and buy all of the things we wanted. She didn’t have the luxury of the internet and online shopping back then. Life has sure gotten easier when it comes to buying Christmas gifts.
It might have gotten easier, but it sure hasn’t become less expensive!
