The federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-foods is aiming to get women and Aboriginal peoples more involved in the agricultural sector.
Lawrence MacAulay was at Agribition in Regina to announce the initiatives detailed in the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
One of the key initiatives is encouraging Indigenous people to participate more in the agricultural sector, something MacAulay says is incredibly important.
“What we want to do is make sure the Aboriginals are more involved, women more involved in agricultural. These programs (that do that) will role out at the start of the year.”
MacAulay says the federal government is contributing $1 billion to promote three prominent initiatives in the C.A.P: growing and expanding markets, growing the agricultural sector and promoting diversity.
