The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association has raised ten thousand dollars during Agribition week in Regina for wildfire relief.
Stock Growers were accepting donations after wildfires in western Saskatchewan killed over 700 cattle and burned tens of thousands of acres of pastures and cropland last month.
Past president Doug Gillespie says the total money raised has reached 75 thousand dollars.
“It has gone just tremendous,” Gillespie said at his booth at the 2017 Agribition. “Sitting at the booth, it’s just one person after another comes up and gives from 100-to-500 dollars. It’s really great.”
The Wall government announced earlier this month it would match wildfire relief donations to a maximum of 100 thousand dollars.
Gillespie says donations of fencing material, trucking costs and cattle feed has reached an additional 180 thousand dollars.
