The University of Regina Rams put a bow on the 2017 season Thursday night by handing out yearly awards.
Atlee Simon was voted by the players as the team MVP. After a slow start to the season, the running back turned it up a notch or two in the second half of the season as he ran for 1148 yards and four touchdowns. That allowed him to become the top running back in Rams history when it comes to yardage surpassing Neal Hughes. Those are numbers he will work on in 2018 as he will be entering his 5th and final season of USPORTS eligibility.
Other award recipients on the night included
- Defensive player of the year – Nick Dheilly
- Rookie of the year — Nick Cross
- Special Teams Player of the year — Kyle Borsa
- Gord Currie Award for leadership and commitment – Noah Picton
The team also honoured its 11 graduating players. They include receiver Mitch Picton, defensive lineman Bryce McKinnon, linebacker Zach McEachern, and defensive lineman Thomas Lill.
