The provincial government is working to address several issues identified in a report about youth suicide in Saskatchewan.
The provinces’ advocate for Children and Youth Corey O’Soup released a report on youth suicide, which stated nearly half of youth suicides in the provinces were Aboriginal.
Minister Responsible for Rural and Remote Health Greg Ottenbreit says a big problem is the access to aid services for youth, something the government is well aware of.
“They’re talking about access to services, not only maybe increase services, but also they’re access to services, making them more child friendly,” he says. ” I think that’s something all partners need to do.
Ottenbreit says the government has already taken to steps to help address this issues, especially in sparsely populated areas.
“We are increasing psychiatric services, we have increased the psychiatry clinics in the north by virtually double, as well as integrated TeleHealth, to connect some of those children as they need.”
